Biography

Shirley Ruth Bromberg Ozon was born in Brooklyn, New York on July 13, 1927 to Jacob Bromberg and Rachel (Raye) Catchman Bromberg. Her family moved to Houston, Texas when Shirley was six years old. She graduated from Jeff Davis High School and began working at San Jacinto Blueprint Company. Shirley met Albert Ozon and they were married on January 31, 1954. They moved to Texas City and raised their family there. Shirley was involved in Hadassah where she served as President several times. She was active in Girl Scouts as her daughters grew up. Later, she earned her real estate license and along with her husband, Albert, opened Ozon Realty. She earned several honors that included Realtor of the Year and the Golden Rule Award. She was a member of the Texas City-La Marque Board of Realtors and served as President of the Women’s Council of Realtors.

She was preceded in death by her parents, sister Annette Greenfield and brother William Bromberg. She is survived by her loving husband, Albert, and daughters Barbara White (Danny Jones), Joanne Ozon Gongora, and Rena Hulen (Chris). Her grandchildren include Jacquelyn White Crawford (Andrew), Michelle White Saenz (Johnnie), Clayton Gongora, and Mark White. Great-grandchildren include Kenneth Broussard, Jared Steele, and Casey Crawford. She is also survived by her brother, Larry Bromberg, as well as numerous in-laws, cousins, nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Graveside services were held on Tuesday, July 27, 2010 at 11:00 AM at Beth Jacob Cemetery located in Galveston, Texas on 61st Street and Avenue T1/2.
