Biography

Arthur McPherson Sims, 83, of Texas City, passed away Friday, March 5, 2010, in Waco, Texas.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 1 p.m., Tuesday, March 9, at St. Mary of the Miraculous Medal Catholic Church in Texas City with Father Tom Ponzini officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Visitation will be 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., Monday, March 8, at Emken-Linton Funeral Home in Texas City with a Rosary beginning at 7 p.m.

Mr. Sims was born January 24, 1927 in Galveston, Texas, to Arthur and Nora Sims. He retired from Union Carbide after 38 years of service and was a member of St. Mary of the Miraculous Medal Catholic Church.

He is preceded in death by his parents; sisters: Gertrude Faherty, Elenora Peters, Phoebe Sims and Marion Griffith.

Survivors include his wife, Wilma Wright Sims; sons, Dr. Arthur M. Sims, III of Dripping Springs and Mike Sims of Waco; daughters: Debbie Fremont of Orangefield, Mitzi Fletcher of Deer Park, Vicki Diaz of San Antonio, Kathie Sims of Montgomery, Aimee Sims of Waco, and Sherri Schoppe of Deer Park; 22 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; numerous other relatives and friends.

Pallbearers are Gary Peters, Asa Sims, Michael Sims, Stephanie Wofford, Doyle Fletcher, Jr., Joseph Diaz Jr., and Kevin Dale Schoppe.
