Biography
Santiago “Jimmy” Lopez, greatest grandpaw in the world, passed away on February 16, 2010 at the age of 71 years.
Jimmy was born in Miami, Arizona on January 5, 1939 to Enrique and Concepcion Lopez. Jimmy grew up in Los Angeles, California. In the early part of his life, he spent three years in the United States Army, stationed in Germany, as a paratrooper. Later, he spent 10 years as a longshoreman for the I.L.A. in Galveston, Texas. Jimmy then worked for the United States Post Office where he retired after 25 years. Jimmy enjoyed bowling, poker, and billiards in his early years. In his later years, he enjoyed spending time with all his grandchildren. He was proud of them all and encouraged them to excel in school.
Jimmy married Olga Garcia and they were married 46 years before he was called home. He is preceded in death by his parents, Enrique and Concepcion Lopez, brother Enrique Lopez Jr., and sister Lydia Lopez.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Olga Lopez; sons Jimmy Lopez Jr. of Las Vegas, Nevada and Richard “Bo” Lopez and wife Theresa of Texas City; daughter Francine DeLeon of Texas City; grandchildren: Brandon Hernandez, Melissa Tavarez, Christopher Lopez, Adrian Lopez, Samantha Lopez, Brittany Lopez, and Nicholas Lopez; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
Visitation will be held Monday, February 22, 2010, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Emken-Linton Funeral Home in Texas City, followed by a Rosary at 7 p.m. Funeral services will be at the funeral home at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, February 23, with burial to follow at Galveston Memorial Park Cemetery in Hitchcock.
Pallbearers will be Christopher Lopez, Adrian Lopez, Pete Ramirez, Jesse Ramirez, Anthony Garcia, and Steve Alvarado. Honorary pallbearers are Brandon Hernandez, Nicholas Lopez, and Joaquin Serrano.
The Lopez family would like to extend a special thank you to Jimmy’s brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Pete and Stella Ramirez, and nephew, Jesse Ramirez for being there in all their times of need.
