Biography

Terry “Cy” Newman, Jr., 86, of Texas City, died peacefully Sunday, February 14, 2010, at Oceanview Care Center surrounded by his family. He was owner of T. A. Newman Contractor and had been retired for many years.

He was preceded in death by his parents Terry Newman, Sr. and Verla Newman.

He is survived by his wife of almost 60 years, Joyce Hoff Newman; sons Jerry and wife Susie, Gary and wife Joan; grandchildren Karen Pullins and husband Tre’ and David Newman and wife Susan; and two great-grandchildren, Whittany and Evan.

Mr. Newman was born in Manvel, Texas. He served in the Army in Europe during World War II and returned to work in the family business where he worked until his retirement in 1993. He was a 60-year member of Texas City Heights Volunteer Fire Department, a VFW life member and a Golden Division member of the Texas City-La Marque Chamber of Commerce. He enjoyed bowling, hunting and fishing and later enjoyed traveling abroad, card games with other couples and family gatherings.

Visitation is scheduled for Tuesday evening, February 16, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Emken-Linton Funeral Home in Texas City. Funeral services will be 10 a.m., Wednesday, February 17, at the funeral home, with Reverend Wayne Clement officiating. Burial will follow at Forest Park East Cemetery in Webster, TX.

Pallbearers are David Newman, L. W. Surratt, Jim Horan, Richard Rodriguez, Kevin Venable, and Mike Mumey. Honorary pallbearers are Morgan Holder, Jimmy Menefee and Tom Schutz.

The family would like to thank AMED Hospice, the Oceanview staff, and all the doctors and medical personnel at Mainland Medical Center who assisted in his care.
