Ed Blass passed from this life February 4, 2010. He was born September 21, 1921, in Arkansas City, Kansas, to Leroy Blass and Margaret Mary Mackey Blass. Ed was preceded in death by his wife Ann Orsak Blass in 1996, his sister Margaret Kukuk, and brothers Maurice Blass and Dan Blass.
He is survived by nieces Connie Reimer of Wichita, KS; Suzanne Blackburn of Santa Fe, TX; Kelly Weiner of Austin, TX; and nephews Edward Blass of Porter, TX; Casey Blass of Austin, TX; Jeff Blass of Temple, TX; Mike Kukuk of Conroe, TX; Chuck Kukuk of Milam, TX; Steve Kukuk of Texas City, TX; and Pat Kukuk of Santa Fe, TX.
Ed was a naval aviator during WWII and remained in the Guard for a time after the war. While employed by Union Carbide, he received a BA from the University of Houston. He loved to golf and enjoyed growing prize winning tomatoes. He treasured his good neighbors of 45 years, Ray and Mary Pitts. A special thanks to Mike Blackburn for the loving care over so many years.
Visitation will be 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.., Sunday, February 7, at Emken-Linton Funeral Home, with a Rosary beginning at 7 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Mary of the Miraculous Medal Catholic Church in Texas City on Monday, February 8, at 10 a.m. Burial will follow at Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Dickinson. Honorary pallbearers are Ray Pitts, Bob McLamore, Frank Flemming, Tom Gast, and Ralph Rosencrantz.
In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made to St. Mary of the Miraculous Medal Building Fund, 1604 – 9th Ave. N., Texas City, TX 77590.
